How to Make Your Corporate COMPETITION Not Suck
Let’s face it, it’s hard to be focused at work during the summer. It’s so easy to just look out the window and imagine anything you could be doing to enjoy the good weather. So, to stay focused you might want to add some competition to work. Then again, you don’t want it to feel like a forced team activity like the ones they made you do in high school. That’s why we’ve gathered some tips to avoid the office competition not suck:
Clear Objectives and Rules
We’re starting practical here. Ensure that the objectives and rules of the competition are clearly communicated to all participants. This clarity will prevent confusion and create a fair playing field, while dramatically lowering chances of lame competition.
Gamification Elements
C’mon. It’s the 21st Century. Add gamification elements to the competitions to increase excitement. Include leaderboards, points, levels, and rewards to create a sense of achievement. Integrate technology into your event to make it even more fun! Consider options like virtual reality experiences, using apps, online platforms, or digital tools that allow participants to track their progress, communicate, and compete in real-time.
Outdoor Activities
Plan outdoor activities like scavenger hunts, relay races, or friendly sports competitions. These can be enjoyed by people of all ages and promote active participation and bonding. There are plenty of options out there such as doing a fitness challenge to see which department gathers the most steps, which team can cycle to the office the most, or simply which team can be the most consistent in drinking water.
Time Constraints
Introduce time constraints for certain challenges to add an element of urgency and excitement. This can push participants to work together efficiently and think quickly. This one is tricky, but if done well it can be loads of fun.
Themed Events
Who says competition needs to be strictly to drive sales? Why not go crazy and plan a themed corporate event based on popular concepts or interests? For example, you could have a casino night, a superhero-themed event, or a retro '80s party. Encourage attendees to dress up and decorate the venue accordingly. Then the whole office can vote on a winner!
Recognition and Rewards
Celebrate and recognize the efforts and achievements of participants. While you could offer a lame rewards, like a certificate or a gift card, you could seal your competition with an Epic Foundries Trophy! The trophy will have the ability to keep track of previous winners, to raise the stakes in every recurring competition.
BONUS!: Feedback and Improvement
Gather feedback from participants after the competition to identify areas of improvement and incorporate their suggestions for future competitions. After all, the competitions are to help your team succeed and have fun.
Remember, it's important to maintain a positive environment. Encourage friendly competition, teamwork, and support among participants, ensuring that the focus remains on enjoyment and growth.
